Why the release date of October 7-15, 2010?
When Alan Livingston created "Bozo the Clown" in 1946 for Capitol Records, many months of planning and work were put into the development of the very first "Record Reader." Originally called, "A Looky Talky record," this was Capitol's new twist on the standard Kiddie record product. This 'pairing up' of the audio on the records with a read along book was just one of Livingston's many creative ideas. Believe it or not, it was the very first time a book and a record had been married together, so to say.
This very first release Livingston created for Capitol was a "Looky Talky" record & book combo called: Bozo at the Circus.
And maybe you have guessed it,...
Bozo at the Circus was released on October 7, 1946*. To pay tribute to Capitol's original Bozo the Clown and Livingston's creation, the plan was set many years ago, while The Bozo Chronicles was still being completed, to release the project to the public on the same day Bozo at the Circus was released in 1946. The rest is in the book, as it was just the beginning for our pal Bozo,...
The release of Bozo at the Circus on October 7, 1946 changed the record industry. Soon, the other record companies were scrambling to create their own line of kidde records,...some were simple records, some paired up with comic books. Capitol replaced the term "Looky Talky" with "Record Reader" in 1947.
Bozo's first record was a big success in the market and Capitol and Livingston were planning the creation of the next Bozo record, the 1947 release of, Bozo And His Rocket Ship. Bozo's records sold millions of copies for Capitol and were in the top 10 in The Billboard charts.
Little did they know that their newly created clown 'Bozo' was going to become a "World famous Star" loved by millions. but, this soon became evident when Bozo made his TV debut on KTTV TV in Jan 1949. His popularity around the world soon had licensees creating a tent full of Capitol Clown collectibles.
Historians and fans alike will love The Bozo Chronicles and the 600 large 8 X 10" pages. This format allows for better viewing of the 1400 plus rare and unpublished photographs.
Truly, The Bozo Chronicles is a treasure for fans and collectors alike.

* In a 1952 special The Billboard noted Bozo at the Circus was released on Oct 15, 1946.
